ELEFHERIOS KYRIAKOS Passed away peacefully in his home, doing his cross, at the age of 92 leaving behind a life defined by his faith as a Christian, love, presence, and deep devotion to family. He was a man whose greatest pride and purpose was those he loved and whose legacy will live on through generations.
To his wife , he was Lefteri; a loving husband. To his daughter, he was Baba; the best Baba around. To his son-in-law, Patera; his best role model. To his three grandchildren, Pappouli; their best friend. And to his four great-grandchildren, Pappouli Lee; their favorite playdate. He was, in every sense, a Pappou to all, warm, steady and endlessly giving.
Each morning, without exception, he would make his way to his daughter's home, a place he lovingly called the folista. To him, the folista was the family base, the place where strength was gathered before everyone went about their lives. There, he would work in the office, waiting to greet his grandchildren when they came home from school. It was during this, that he would spend time with his daughter, wait for his son-in-law's afternoon call, and eagerly count down the moments until the school day ended for when his grandchildren would return. One by one, his three grandchildren would take their turn sitting with him in the office, talking, sharing, and simply being heard.
His greatest gift was his ability to listen, truly listen, to anything anyone wanted to share. He offered guidance through wisdom, love, and his faith, making his grandchildren feel as though they had been given a bonus parent. He was a teacher in the truest sense. He taught his grandchildren how to do their cross and the importance of our faith in God and Jesus Christ, how to speak Greek, swim, drive, listen to Greek music, love their family, and most importantly, how to live with love. His lessons were not loud or forceful, but gentle and lasting, shaping who they are today.
Summers were spent in Greece with his wife, who he called "Pat", at their home in Athens, where he returned to Vouliagmeni each day, revisiting the cafes he once operated before immigrating to America. Those days were filled with swimming, eating, and time spent with his brothers, family, and friends. Above all, he eagerly awaited the moments he could pick up his family from the airport, welcoming them with a bright smile and a the biggest hug.
He treated every day as a blessing, doing his cross repeatedly throughout the day thanking God for all he had. To him, living to see his four great-grandchildren was the greatest blessing of all. Age never limited his love. Even in his late 80s, Pappouli Lee would get down on the floor, on his hands and knees, to play with his great-grandchildren at their level, making them laugh, and feel deeply loved.
He was a truly remarkable man, filled with kindness and quiet strength. He had the rare ability to make anyone he met feel like family. To know him was to feel as though he was your Pappou too.
He will be profoundly missed and forever cherished. His love remains the foundation of his family, and his spirit will live on in every life he touched.
