Obituary

Michael N. Durdil   September 29, 1940 – October 18, 2024

Michael Norman Durdil, 84, passed away suddenly on October 18, 2024 in Sugar Grove, IL.

Born in 1940 in Oak Park, IL, Michael (Mike) grew up in Cicero, IL, and graduated from Fenwick High School in the class of 1958. Immediately following high school, Michael was a member of the Army (Illinois) National Guard, before his honorable discharge. He then began his life-long career as an investment advisor. Michael was introduced into the industry by his endearing grandfather, Edward M. Goodman, and spent more than 43 years with Prudential Securities. While there, Michael held various roles as branch manager and regional sales manager within their Chicago offices as well as in the Akron, OH area. It was also during his time at Prudential that Michael met his wife of 30 years, Julaine (nee Kovacik), who survives him.

Michael also leaves behind children Roger (Liza) Durdil of Elmhurst, Jennifer (Nate) Klinger of Elmhurst, and Amy (John) Anderson of Lombard; and grandchildren Michael and Matthew Durdil, Rose, Wade, and Sarah Klinger, and Henry and Sage Anderson.  Michael is further survived by step-grandchildren Nathan and Adam Klinger, brothers-in-law John (Bonnie) Kovacik and Rob (Dawn) Kovacik, and sister-in-law Carol Conville. He was also a fond uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Emil F. and Alice (nee Keating) Durdil, brother Roger Francis Durdil, sister Patricia (Frederick) Jourdan, and former wife and mother to his children, Crystal M. Durdil.

Besides his family, Michael had many interests including his favorite home away from home in northern Wisconsin, and the many dogs he loved and counted as his family over the years (including Schatzie, his favorite schnauzer, and Lucy, his current "good girl"). From his teenage years, having been graced with a new Chevy coupe, he acquired a taste for anything with wheels or motors and carried his interest in cars, trucks, Harley motorcycles, and boats into his retirement. For those that Michael crossed paths with, he left the indelible mark of his many endearing quirks. He was one-of-a-kind, and those who met him never forgot him or his trademark mannerisms and habits that he was famous for. While somewhat reserved, he greatly loved his family and his loyalty to them was clear to all.  Michael was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, and uncle who will be tremendously missed.
